Admin Monday 21st APR 2014 - 30 Day Drawing Challenge coming soon!

Updates:

Our 31 day drawing challenge is going to be moving to June and becoming a 30 day drawing challenge! This isn't just to save us a day of effort, but also because July always seems to be a crazy busy month here in Galway, with the Arts Festival and the Races and people going on holidays and so forth... so June it will be! That's only just over a month away, so get ready! We almost have all the topics picked out, so a provisional list will go up soon, but if you have any suggestions feel free to leave a comment or join us on the Facebook group for discussions!

Our friends in 091 Labs have moved - check out their new location and maybe go join them on a Tuesday night for one of their open nights!

Miriam Elia made this parody of the Peter and Jane books, called "We go to the Gallery", but Penguin didn't see the funny side and are trying to get her to cease-and-desist, which is a shame, because her book is really funny. Check out some pages from it over on Hyperallergic.

Helen likes the look of this documentary -

"Making It" Official Trailer from Anthony Francis Moorman on Vimeo.

Arthur Haywood's blog is filled with amazing theory and advice on the practical side of Art-making. Highly recommended.

Brian from Drink and Draw Sligo pointed us at the Character Design Blog, especially this interview with Denis Medri!

I discovered the Art of Amelia Vidal which somehow led to a conversation about Travis Charest.

Mary wanted us to learn how pencils are made -

And Stephanie was championing this guy's work - David Scheirer.

Katie felt we all need to stay active while we're drawing/painting/using tablets/whatever sedentary nonsense we do, so she linked to this exercise guide.

The Athenaeum is another place to check out classic Art!

There's some beautiful sample images from the Celebrating the Portrait as Art exhibition on the Underpaintings blog.

James recommended watching the documentary Far out isn't far enough about Tomi Ungerer on RTE last Thursday. It was really really good. You can still catch it on the RTE Player for the next 4 days or so.

And Mary spotted friend of Pub Scrawl Shir MadNess in this Heineken Stage Fright ad - you can see why we were mad for her at Dr. Sketchy's Galway!

Don't forget to come join us in the back room of McSwiggans for our next Pub Scrawl - Pub Scrawl #109 : You don't have to be gluten intolerant, but it helps.
