Here's your fortnightly round-up:

Member posts -
First up, Mary from the Pub Scrawl has another awesome t-shirt design at Qwertee. If you like The Kingkiller Chronicles, you'll appreciate this. Give it a vote!

Linda's Drawing and Visual Inquiry group at the GTI is selling raffle tickets for a draw on this Friday, the 30th of March. They're raffling off folders with a random piece of art from each student. You can get one strip of tickets for 2 europes or 3 strips for a fiver. If you want tickets, email Linda at linda.d.boonstra (at) gmail.com. or you can get tickets from room 27 in the GTI, I assume during work hours? Certainly on the morning of the 30th, I'm guessing.

And Maurizio shared this progress video from his upcoming illustrated novel - check it out, it's amazing -

Random Art Spam -
Other posts of interest -
Bjorn Hurri (aka Hurricane) revealed the latest in his Steampunk Star Wars redesigns - and my favourite so far! - the Steampunk Stormtrooper!

This guy bubbled up recently - he bills his art as "hyper-realist" and it really, really is. Some stunning images.

The mighty VinceB of the 11 O'Clock Podcast recommended this guy's blog - Dave Stokes cos his art is fantastic. And I have to agree.

Some amazing designs came up on DeviantArt - Pop Culture Maths!

And Patrick served up this other great DeviantArt Gallery by KaiCarpenter!

Kate Beaton was drawing peoples attention to this video - its beautiful

Mary reminded us all about the Gnomon Workshop and all the great resources you can find there.

The Comics Critic and Artist Matt Seneca rounded up some great album covers drawn by comic book creators - check it out!

The always excellent Dianne Mize did one of her composition tutorials - this time, really nicely (and simply) illustrating tangents. It's one of the best run-throughs on the idea that I've seen.

My new favourite blogspot blog, Faith is Torment, highlighted these amazing paintings that mimic multiple-exposure photographs. Fantastic idea, really well executed.

The only reason I bought my Kindle edition of The Hunger Games was this wordless comic Faith Erin Hicks made adapting the first few pages. I'll report back on whether I like the book as much.

donalfall out.

Galway Pub Scrawl #58 - WUBWUBWUB

You guessed it - another fun night at the Pub Scrawl! Woooooooooooooooooooooo - also, new faces, which is always amazing. :)

Here we all gather - there's more down the back there somewhere...

Patrick (as per the photo above) is notso-hotso on gang signs, but who needs to be when you draw like this?

Mary works away on something - but wait! What's that on the horizon?

HER BRAND NEW INKLING! OH BABY OH BABY!

Jen-eye reckons that Ewoks are Star Wars' 99%.... there certainly are a lot of them.

Oisin draws the right honourable Judge Bearington.

Marijke was visiting - I think she fits right in.

This is what I was doing before I broke the lead in my white pencil....

but after that, I was easily distracted (and somewhat less accurate).

Patrick was super productive! More art, more armour.

Linda got a gigantic set of PITT brush tip markers - and she's getting great use out of the colours!

Jay may or may not have done this at the 'Scrawl. :)

And Yolande quietly keeps the sanity with our fortnightly craft corner. :D

And that's the photos from another great Pub Scrawl! Come join us for another one, Pub Scrawl #59 - More than one way to avoid myxomatosis on the 02nd April 2012 - 20:30 in McSwiggans!

Admin Monday

Don't forget our next Next Pub Scrawl - WUBWUBWUB is on next Monday, the 19th March 2012 at 20:30 in McSwiggans Bar, Woodquay. In related events that might be of interest in the area, my Mum's crochet group, Galway Crochet Craft, are having a display of Lace and Lacecraft of all kinds, including a demo in Lace-making on Tuesday the 20th at 19:30 in The View, Aras na Macleinn, NUIG. make sure to tell anyone you think might be interested! Admission is free and they're serving refreshments during the night.

In our facebook group, I share some links of interest during the week. Here's the week in links -

FAS have an internship for an animator in the Galway area. I'm not au fait with how you get to be eligible for this stuff, but its worth looking into if you know the story.

Today's Inspiration shared some amazing work by Jack Davis last week, displaying his amazing penmanship which just blew me away.

New Irish Gaming/Fantasy/Sci-Fi magazine the Gazebo are looking for art for their upcoming #1 issue. The theme is Steampunk, if you have anything they need you might send it their way.

My eye was caught by this gorgeous work by Caitlin Hackett. I especially liked the way she was working in this photo.

Kevin of the Drink Draw Cork posted this wonderful video from the International Watercolour Society Jury Committee - so outstanding and above and beyond what I expect of watercolours, in most of this work.

There are free comics to download on The Bureau of Drawers which look absolutely fantastic!

My hunt through various Tumblrs for the best art posts about continues - here's a great one on the art of Mead Schaeffer, one of my favourite Golden Age American Illustrators.

Kevin Campion, friend to Galway Pub Scrawl, has posted his amazing sculptural practise pieces - I have no idea if this facebook album of his is public or private, so hopefully you can see it.

Patrick shared some mind blowing Star Wars themed posters created for an exhibit to try and capture the personal identities of Star Wars characters. They are really, really cool.

Our friends from SubCity Comics have an entry in the Eagle Awards - vote for "The League of Volunteers" in the Best European Comic category if you have a chance!

We had an impromptu Pub Scrawl in the NUIG College Bar for ITZACon on Saturday. I had meant to make this an official one, but it had slipped my mind. We'll have formalise it for next year. I'll post some pics of our Twisted Fairy Tale pieces when I have them.

My Saturday was a bit spoiled by the news of Moebius passing away. One of the greatest living cartoonists and illustrators has left us. RIP. James Gurney posted links to the fantastic Moebius documentary, Moebius Redux. You should watch it. Gar shared a link to Bleeding Cool's post on remembering him through his art as well - worth a look.

But something to pick up the mood - I stumbled across the inspirational site http://www.conceptroot.com/ - a nice repository of Concept Art imagery.

That's the round-up! See you next Monday for the Pub Scrawl!

Galway Pub Scrawl #57 - Clown Car

Galway Pub Scrawl #57 - Clown Car

One of our best nights at the Pub Scrawl! Then again, I say that about them all. :P Lots of fun and some very strange discussion going on (isn't it always).

Without further ado, pictures:

Big crowd at this week's Pub Scrawl (retroactively apt title)

Some times I feel we should be called Galway HP PubCraft -

Mary shows her prep work for her great Qwertee entry. If you haven't, you should go throw her a vote!

Jenny is snake-ily productive (wa wa)

Patrick has been playing with mirrors again...

and I was playing with my old foe, cross-hatching.

Linda draws a fae creature -

The other endof the table - Keith holding court....

Iggy tries to make a strategy for beating a line-up...

Nico examines movement - great studies here!

Jay studies boob structure. More questionable, perhaps. :)

And seeing as I caught it, Ger with some prep work for some....

Armour, of course! He just can't stop with the armour. :)

Really great night all round! Our next date is a Bank Holiday, so a lot will depend on how crazy the pub is, but it should be fine. See you back here in 2 weeks or so for another edition of the Galway Pub Scrawl! Also, I have plans for a new feature for the blog, coming soon!

Galway Pub Scrawl #56 - Trust

Sooooooooooooo I pretty much forgot these photos - here was the thing - our last Pub Scrawl was during the new non-official "Rag Week" or student week here in Galway, which I had forgotten when I set up the date. So when I realised my error (on the day) I only went as far as the pub to see if anyone had turned up on the off-chance they braved the crowds. So, I left my camera behind. So, these are useless cell phone pics (Actually, my new phone doesn't take awful pictures, I'm just being dramatic).

There was some fun to be had - check these pictures OUT!

I should put up what I did as well, but I didn't photo or scan it yet. :( Myself and Patrick and Mo went to visit the Drink Draw Cork last Thursday (where we had fun with their theme of Pirates!) - must upload the pictures from that too, later. They're having a weekend trip to Dublin at the end of the month with various drawing activities. Some people are going up to see what's happening on the Saturday, seeing as they're going to the amazing Dr. Sketchy's for their end of month Saturday session. If you want to make your way there, you can. If you want to go for more of the weekend or whatever, Ed's contact details are on the Drink Draw post. I'ld reckon they have their accommodations and forth all wrapped up, but at least you could sort out complimentary arrangements.
