Admin Monday 28th JAN 2013

More links, updates and news from your friendly local Pub Scrawl!

Updates:

Yolande pointed out this art contest for the Donkey Sanctuary in Co. Cork. The theme is Donkeys.... :) Closing date is the 19th of March.

And Yolande pointed out that Ropes are looking for Art Submissions for their 2013 issue - the deadline is today, so move fast!

Today is also the last day for this good cause which needs some Art that Joe Neary pointed out.

The Gazebo are still looking for Art for their next issue, the theme is Virtual Gaming. Get your art into them!

The Disney Social Network game that Eva Widermann worked on concept art for has been teased - congratulations Eva! Eva's founding of Drink & Draw Cork inspired us to start Galway Pub Scrawl, so it's great to hear awesome career news for her. :)

Aaron Diaz has been designing characters from the Silmarillion - they're pretty awesome.

Patrick also pointed out this cool artist on DeviantArt, Phobs, who is also taking inspiration from the Silmarillion.

The Art Order has been publishing Painting Ideas as a springboard to creativity.

If you think your art is bad, check out the lousy book covers tumblr. Update: They also cross-post on Facebook now.

Scamp.ie pointed towards this video:

Deep Sea Diver by Linocutboy. from Hazeleigh Prebble on Vimeo.

As they said, you'ld have to be made of stone not to be inspired by this.

Tom Fowler put up his entries for Spectrum 20 - I love his work, but it was also a good signal that *everyone* would be posting great art for their Spectrum 20 entries over the next few weeks.

Chris Sanders has been posting his storyboard work from "The Croods" - I really like looking at storyboard art, but these are exceptional - lively and full of character!

On Facebook, the very interesting and sometimes deeply odd Cartoon Jumbles mix different cartoon characters together.

Patrick pointed out this cool script-writing/story-boarding tool, Celtx. It's a kind of Evernote for scripts that can sync across all your devices. Very nice.

And that's it for us. Check back in next Monday for photos from the next Pub Scrawl - #79: to all humans...

Galway Pub Scrawl #78 - Fun with Art

Another fun night in the pub! Normally, I would wait for an Admin Monday to make some notices, but these are time dependent and mostly involve contests - have fun:

Notices:

Yolande pointed out this art contest for the Donkey Sanctuary in Co. Cork. The theme is Donkeys.... :) Closing date is the 19th of March.

And Yolande pointed out that Ropes are looking for Art Submissions for their 2013 issue - the deadline is next Monday (the 28th), so move fast!

Monday the 28th is also the last day for this good cause which needs some Art that Joe Neary pointed out.

The Gazebo are still looking for Art for their next issue, the theme is Virtual Gaming. Get your art into them! Anita tells me their deadline is the 3rd of February.

And now, some photos from this evening! :)

Moody low angle group shot! So dramatic.

I think Leigh was working on a piece for the Donkey Sanctuary...

Jay was working on this moody Archer.

Ger was doing breakdowns for more pages of his comic -

I was doing more spaceships for what I was talking about on my blog

Helen was hard at work with a full set-up again -

George was working on these great pieces -

Geraldine was keeping the craft side up with some knitting -

I love that Anita is looking so happy...

... and Patrick is looking so glum. What a diptych!

Katie was working on something adorable again.

and Yolande gave Jay these crocheted converse. Bit too small for him, I think.

and she was right back to work again on more crochet!

and here's a more usual high angle group shot. Less moody, but you can see how cheerful we all are!

That's it for us this time around! Join us in another two weeks for another Galway Pub Scrawl - #79 "to all humans...".

Richard Pace encourages you to rekindle the passion for your drawings in a very fun (and only slightly dirty) blog post.

Tom Fowler's D(ungeons)&D(ragons)&D(oodles) Tumblr is shaping up to be my new favourite Tumblr blog.

This video of Jerome Witkin drawing from life -

Jerome Witkin Drawing Demonstration from LCAD MFA on Vimeo.

- oh my.

Massive Fantastic is a new site full of the good stuff (videos, podcasts, articles) on Art.

There is cool 3-D effect art on Order in Debris:

And Tim Bruckner gave some good tips on painting eyes at Muddy Colors!

Galway Pub Scrawl #77 - is filmed in front of a live studio audience

Another great night of fun and drawing in the pub! What a great start for the New Year - here's the Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaart!

Look at all these good looking folk -

Jenny works away on her iPad.

Joey made this rather fetching mask.

Patrick seems to bring ever-more-elaborate sets of notes.

Katie's drawings are adorable.

George produced this awesome drawing.

Declan told me to draw Ninjas, but I lost interest in this piece half way through.

So I moved onto this Crow.

Alan's drawings were nudity-free this time around.

Mary only appears one way in photographs at Pub Scrawl.

Ger Coady knows what he likes.

Oisin wasn't feeling the drawing, so he went for some llight Origami.

Yolande is making doilies, according to Alan.

Helen brought a full set-up and was practicing some digital art.

That was that you guys! Make sure to share us, +1 us on Google, join us over on facebook, whatever. Tell your friends and come join us again in 2 weeks for another Galway Pub Scraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawl....

Admin Monday 31st JAN 2012 - That's the end of the year!

What a great year we've had! Thanks to everyone, Scrawlers and Blog Viewers who has made it so awesome. :) We'll see if we can keep this kind of momentum going into 2013. Happy New Year, everybody!

Updates:

James Newell wished us all a Merry Christmas!

Jay Penn shared the sad news that Loviatar - the gaming magazine he illustrates for - is closing up shop.

Links:

Patrick wanted us to look at Shane Prigmore's conceptart from Rise of the Guardians.

AND Patrick showed us this cool link to illuminated scenes from the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings by Jian Guo.

Alan pointed us towards this awesome window drawing inspired by Metropolis by the street artist Strook.

Bobby Chiu is restarting his Chiustream live streaming Q&A/classes/painting demos. I think all you have to do is register on the Schoolism mailing list to get access to it?

Cynthia Sheppard is doing the coolest commissions - extending the art on Magic Cards with her images all the way out to the edge!

Miy mind was blown by this 3D model of Walter White from Breaking Bad over on zbrushcentral.

Just a short one this time, we had a quiet Christmas. Don't forget to join us next monday night in McSwiggans for another amazing Galway Pub Scrawl!

Admin Monday 17th Dec 2012

HIYO!

I guess there's going to be a bit of an XMas break for the next few weeks.... our next normal Pub Scrawl would be on the 24th, so that's a no deal. Look for us to be back live on the 7th of January, 2013! There may even be a new event for a New Year.

We'll keep the chatter minimal for the next few weeks to let everyone relax for their Christmas break, but there will still be a small update on the 31st. Keep an eye peeled.

Updates:

While we're waiting for the New Year and the next Pub Scrawl, we can make some art for our friends over at The Gazebo! Their theme for their next free RPG Magazine is "virtual gaming". Send them something now!

Helen Gomez is publishing a list (the? list) of Art Workers in Galway so let her know if you want to be included.

Kevin Gough (honorary Pub Scrawler, but more usually a Cork Drink & Draw'er) had some his art selected for an exhibition in the Glucksman Gallery in Cork. This exhibition is moving around the country so keep an eye out for it! Congratulations Kevin!

I've been updating my blog more recently in the last while. I would appreciate any views, comments and feedback! Don't forget to check out everyone's blogs, DeviantArts etc - mostly listed under "Our Lovely Members" over on the right hand side. Also, keep an eye out for a new tab up top with everyone's websites and details.

We have one of these new Google+ Community pages for you to come join.

Dan Dos Santos posted a how-to about how to photograph your paintings.

Stephanie pointed us toward the Sketchbook Project, a travelling library of Sketchbooks.

Declan linked to OFF LIFE - an online version of the UK Indie Comics Magazine.

The Audio Stream for "The Perfect Bait" by Bobby Chiu is free until the 10th of January. Go listen!

I LOVE the idea behind The Sketchbook Project II. I want to do something similar someday with Pub Scrawl.

I also LOVE collaborative Sketch Blogs. Joy Teeth is back active on Tumblr. Check them out.

You'll find very little as charming as the Greatest Story Ever Told.

And everyone should check out these Anamorphic Illusions!

Phil Barrett over at Blackshapes made this cool promo image for the "Culture File" podcast.
(Follow the link to Phil's blog for the full picture - it's worth it!)

I've linked to Otto Schmidt's art before, but this tribute to Daria and Jane is the best thing he's done for those who love the 90's!

Galway Pub Scrawl #76 - Catastrophe! Add more Cats!

A quiet night at the Pub Scrawl this week, but that's cos Galway is as cold as a Yeti's balls at the moment. It's freezing here you guys. Though, for those of us who trekked through the ice, McSwigggans was warm enough. :)

And now some photos -

Helen was drawing Picasso hands. Looks painful. :)

I was drawing BOOM!

Alan was drawing ever more elaborately. He says it was cos I gave him an eraser.

Declan was working on class project work, so I only took a small snap.

Ger drew these awesome faces in between Samurai.

And Patrick gave us Popeye.

No Pub Scrawl in two weeks - cos that's Christmas Eve. Join us in a months time (the 7th of January) for the next Pub Scrawl on the 7th of January 2013 - Pub Scrawl is filmed in front of a live studio audience!
