Great night at the Galway Pub Scrawl! Sadly Y's computer's kettle lead has blown out and it has a completely sealed plug? How is *that* a good idea, Sony? Actually, it must be the first blown out plug fuse I've seen in about 10 years. I guess they're more built to last these days.

Well, her computer is the one I do all my photo manipulation/cropping etc on, so I guess I'll have to give you the photos tomorrow or as soon as possible.

Make sure to keep an eye out for the next 'Scrawl - Galway Pub Scrawl #42! - Ploit! on June 13th, 2011 @ 20:30 GMT in McSwiggans, Galway!

RIP Jeffrey Catherine Jones. Next Pub Scrawl - Monday 30th.

A sad weekend for fans of Fantasy Art, Jeffrey Catherine Jones passed away. The world *should* miss her talent, but many will go on not knowing what's been lost. Still, at least the Art survives. Poke around that homepage, you should not be disappointed (at the Art - her death is very disappointing).

Anyhoo, her sad passing led to some interesting reflections on Fantasy Art in the blogosphere, I think this Muddy Colours one by Arnie Fenner is the best one I read, because it focusses on beginnings, not endings. And it's pretty inspirational. You should go check it out. Everyone has to start somewhere, so if you feel your art is schlubby now, know it will improve and you can scale great heights with some dedication!

And you can hone that dedication with some encouragement from your peers - Pub Scrawl #41 - The Witch King's Birthday was the next day is next Monday, 30th of May in McSwiggans, Woodquay, Galway.

See you all there.

Sketchcrawlin' around. Galway Pub Scrawl Sketchcrawl 001!

So, we went on the Sketchcrawl... sort of.

We gathered up in the Galway City Museum, as per advertised for our starting point.

But Galway looked like this, outside. :(

Most of us had become very, very wet, just struggling to get to the museum, so all hopes of landscapes etc. were lost.

But all was not lost! In the environs of the City Museum, we got down to business.

Edel worked on harnessing Death:

Paddy was going for 28 days later (after the rapture) :D

Eoghan went for a map of some sort, possibly to do with Minecraft...

Oisin draws.... suspiciously Minecraft looking things....

And Mo did Minecraft Rapture... Hmmm... lots of Minecraft, but such are the times we live in.

Mary went for the Cathedral - Minecraft Cathedral? Who knows.

Cathy was enchanted with Edel's Sumi Brush.

Galway was still looking like this when we left, ....

... dampish, you might agree. Bad for inks. ;)

So we went for a drink!

Some new additions turned up, or Michelle anyway.

and a good time was had by all, I think.

That was a good time! We'll do it again, but hopefully the weather might improve in July or August? I was particularly looking forward to getting some watercolour landscapes done, so there'll still be that goal. I'll stick up some of my own work later.

Ciao!

Embroidery at the Pub Scrawl!

And Oisin gives us the only other tassled contribution, with Zombie Strippers!

And I hit back, with a quick Judge Death!

That's it for now! Don't forget we're going on a Sketchcrawl on saturday at 2pm - you can find details about it in my last post. Next Pub Scrawl, Galway Pub Scrawl #41 - The Witch King's birthday was the next day... is on May 30th, 20:30 GMT in McSwiggans!

Pubscrawl OUT.

Last night, she said it was a great Pub Scrawl....

Fantastiche night at the Pub Scrawl last night. For some reason someone suggested a theme of "tassles" - I don't think we did a lot of tassle-based art, although there is at least one Zombie Stripper to show you guys. I'll have to post the pics later, cos we were home late & I've been dragged off to boring old work this afternoon.

The 1st inaugral Galway Sketchcrawl is on THIS SATURDAY, the 21st. Also supposedly the day of the Rapture, so that should give us some cool things to paint. We're starting at the Galway City Museum Cafe at the Spanish Arch and heading towards Salthill. Unless the weather is crappy, then I don't know what we'll do. Hang out and have a sketchsulk, someone suggested. That might be the case. On the Facebook event for the sketchcrawl I said it starts at 12. THIS IS INSANITY. It'll be starting around 2 PM. This is a civillised man's waking & walking hours. I must change the Facebook details this evening.

Hopefully this works here:

This is the route we'll be on if you're looking for us. Fun times! Pictures from last night's Pub Scrawl later.

Late breaking news! This was posted as I was typing up the blog - Gorilla Artfare released their book!!!!!!!. This is absolutely amazing. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. The best money you will spend this year, or the next.

New post monday! Lest I forget....

There's always a danger I'll forget to do these. I've been trying to figure out a date for a sketchcrawl across galway. Some saturday afternoon, very shortly, keep an eye peeled! We'll do a route something like this - route-ah.

I haven't been keeping myself organised enough to have a set of links ready to hand to distribute for your entertainment, so let's see what I can push together at the last minute.

Sergio Lopez has a set of images up which I think are some of his most stunning yet. Full disclosure - I bought one of his original sketches in an eBay auction once, so I may count as biased, but I think his art is fantastic.

I started a Tumblr account recently. Anyone who Pub Scrawls or is part of our affiliated sister groups should hit me up there! I'll link in anyone else who lets me know how to find their Tumblr. Browsing around, I found this, which is just awesome. Particularly seeing as I love PITT pens, as any Pub Scrawler will know.

I *love* group blogs, so I was instantly enamoured with Bristol Whip, which showcases amazing art on great themes. We also love themes at the Galway Pub Scrawl. :D

If you like themes, and you like Star Wars, you could do worse than run over to the 11 o'clock comics forums and join in the Monthly EOC Sketchbook Challenge. There's a call for your favourite Star Wars Character in the form of an Illustration.

If you like comic book storytelling, Sydney Padua has posted the funniest version of how to influence character dynamics I've seen in a long time. It reminds me somewhat of what Aaron Diaz does on his blog.

Not bad for a thrown together post!

Ciao til next time. The next Pub Scrawl is on the 16th of May. We're looking forward to seeing you there. I'm thinking a good day for the Sketchcrawl would be Saturday the 14th, but that depends on numerous factors. Stay tuned!
